Photoshop Elements is a user-friendly, beginner-oriented, graphics-editing program and companion to Photoshop that was introduced with an initial public offering in April 2004. At the time it was in beta, and the final version was released in early October 2004. It’s free and provides most of the functionality and ease of use of Photoshop.

Using Photoshop

Photoshop is designed to allow you to edit raster images using multiple layers. When using Photoshop, the image that you edit is really the first layer. That layer is known as the background layer or the “composite.” So, for example, in a layer that you’ve set as a red background, you can type, create, or move your red layer, and this layer becomes the background layer. The text and other elements that you place in the image are created using other layers beneath the background layer. For example, you can create a text layer under the background layer and move it. The text remains under the background layer, but the background layer can then be moved.

If you drag a layer, it’s moved to the background layer. You can use the Move tool and the Command (Mac) or Edit (Windows) menu to move it, or you can use the Select tool and Shift+click to select it and then move it.

The background layer is also known as the “composite.” Creating a composite is the same as creating a background layer. When you create a composite, it’s the image that appears as the background on the canvas.

As you create layers, you can either use the basic layers that come with Photoshop or you can create your own using the Layer menu. When you create your own layers, the layers appear in the Layers panel (in the lower-left corner of the workspace), and you control the visibility of the layers using the Visibility panel (shown in Figure 7-1) and are able to change the order in which you place the layers in the stack.

The main tool for working with the layers in a raster image is the Move tool, which enables you to perform all manner of tasks. The commands Edit⇒Copy and Edit⇒Paste enable you to duplicate layers or to create images of layers that were created in different canvases, respectively. You can change the color of a layer and then merge or delete parts of that layer and create a new layer or group from the layer or other layers. You can also use the Shape tool

This article is not a how to guide for how to use Photoshop elements and focus instead on the tools in the product.

Preparation

Before you start you need to decide if you need Photoshop Elements or not. If you have a computer with Windows then you can download and install it for free. You can also buy a USB drive to install Photoshop Elements instead of having to download it.

Once it has finished installing, you can open Photoshop Elements and load some images.

Simple Editing

The basic edition of Photoshop Elements comes with a number of very basic editing tools, such as the Ink Editor (for creating full color images), as well as the Adjustment Brush tool. There are also more advanced tools for creating animations and building image or video collages. The easier tools are both useful for non-professional users and will get them started off very well. You can always purchase additional upgrades later.

Ink Editor

The Ink Editor tool is used to create full color images. It is useful for creating simple clipart, for adding a design to an existing image, or for creating an image that looks like it’s been drawn on.

Adding text, lines, shapes and other forms of clipart is easy. Just create a selection, or drag your selection tool, onto the part of the image you want to add a clipart. It is also possible to add a color to an area with the color tool. To change the color of a selection you double-click on the selection, or press the spacebar. You can change the opacity of a selection by double-clicking on it, or pressing the spacebar.

Adjustment Brush

The Adjustment Brush tool is great for changing the brightness, contrast, saturation, and other brightness and contrast settings of an image. The effect of the brush is similar to the Eraser tool in the Finder or the Eraser tool in Photoshop.

When you first use the Adjustment Brush the tool looks like a large pen and moves in an irregular motion. If you want to paint in a more circular motion you can hold down the shift key or use the regular painting tool in a circular motion.

There are several preset settings you can use to make basic adjustments to images. These presets are accessible by clicking on the Adjustment Brush at the bottom left of the control panel.

Expression of an mRNA coding for a proliferation-associated nuclear antigen (p55NAS) was studied in bladder biopsies from 4 cases of bladder small cell carcinoma (SCC). Hybridization of biopsy sections with a p55NAS cDNA labelled with 35S-dATP was performed. The same probes were used for in situ hybridization (ISH) on archival material of the same SCC. The biopsy material contained poorly differentiated SCC, and hybridization was consistent with poor differentiation. In the archival material, all four cases showed a distinct immunohistochemical expression of p55NAS. The SCC cells were strongly positive in 3 of 4 cases, and the cytoplasmic reaction was weak to moderate, but the cytoplasmic reaction in the 4th case was strong. Correspondingly, the nuclear reaction in the archival material was strong in all 4 cases. The results of ISH on biopsy material were discrepant for 3 of 4 cases. For 2 cases the transcript was expressed, but the reaction was weak. For the other case, the transcript was expressed strongly, but only negative staining was observed. In the archival material all 4 cases showed a strong transcript, but only weak to moderate immunohistochemical reactions. We found a discrepancy between the mRNA expression and the protein expression in the biopsies, but ISH proved to be of value in detecting the mRNA in the archival material.Q:

Moving Server 2D Object in 3D world

I’m working on a project which requires server’s world 2D object to move in 3D world.
I’ll be very grateful to find any samples, tutorials or documentation about it.

What do you mean by 2D world? Do you mean that your objects move inside of a 2D plane, or actually three dimensional? In both cases you’ll need the same information for your 2D object to be updated as your 3D object:
-Position (x, y) relative to camera position (x, y)
-Zoom/distance (z) (distance to camera)
-Rotate relative to camera (x, y, z)
So if you have a system where you have 3D objects that are represented as 2D images, you’ll need to project them in 3D world and also project the camera on the 2D image (call this picture a target).
Using these information, you’ll calculate the position of each pixel within the 2D image:
x = x_cam + x_position.x;
y = y_cam + y_position.y;
z = (zoom_factor * z_cam) + z_position.z;

This will define x and y as the position relative to the camera, and z will be the distance between the 2D image target and the camera.
On the client, I’d recommend using the WebGL API to compute the image positions. This will be important as you will want to ensure that the pixel positions are in screen coordinates (similar to desktop GL and desktop GLES). For example, you can do something like:
