Bracing for a total solar eclipse this month, the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Landscape Department at the Denver Botanic Gardens to create a trail on the grounds of the arboretum that will be used for viewing. The eclipse coincides with the bloom of the 14th annual eclipse season, which runs through Nov. 11.

According to the IDA, “The eclipse trail will provide the region with a safe, accessible location where visitors can view the total solar eclipse in one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems. This is the first time the eclipse will be visible across the continental United States and the first time the eclipse has coincided with the peak bloom of our largest annual wildflower, the garden’s Sand Verbena.”

The eclipse trail will be located on the eastern side of the garden on a section of the grounds which has not been used for a long time. The trail is meant to be open and wide enough for every visitor to see the eclipse safely.
