Programs like Photoshop sometimes lose their images after saving them. If you import an image from a scanner or a digital camera into Photoshop, you get the option to choose the type of file to import the image into. Most choose to import the original file, which results in a copy of the original. However, the original image can be exported as a copy of itself again, a procedure called _duplicating_ or _dupping_ the image.

The duplication does not always result in a perfect copy, although the process does attempt to keep as close a copy as possible. If your original image is fairly large or complicated, you may have to make a number of copies or sections of it to get a reasonable duplicate.

In addition to the file types that you can import from a scanner or digital camera, you have the choice of saving images in the Photoshop format.

Features and functionality

A great variety of tools.

Photoshop Elements ’12 has more than 1,000 tools – from vector and GIF editing to creating frames, images, images and layouts, drawing various objects and adding borders, reflections and lighting. There’s even a tool to apply on-screen blur, and one to adjust the granularity on scanned documents.

Some tools work only in Photoshop Elements, whereas others have a separate version for Photoshop. Some tools such as the Gradient tool or the Split Layer tool work exactly the same in both.

Because the two editions use different versions, you can use both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements with the same image in the same programme.

The new version has more tools, and it also has tools that haven’t yet been in the previous version of Photoshop. For example, there’s a new tool to remove colour casts from images.

The new panel and Image Size dialog.

The new panel is almost twice as large as the old panel and can be opened by hitting the new window key on the keyboard. The old panel is still available, and it still opens with a double click.

The ‘Image Size’ dialog has a new look that shows a bar chart in the bottom left showing the number of pixels in the image. Each bar can be resized to show more or less pixels.

For example, U.S. Pat. No. 3,449,968 to Joy discloses such a mechanism.
Injection devices can be relatively complicated and costly, and some of the known devices are fairly bulky.
