GoMinimal! is the midi-parser of the world. See what features it is made of, and what its capabilities are.
Features:
– Can parse any format of midi messages.
– Has extensible error-handling (including deferred parsing of tokens).
– All parts of the midi-message (such as chords, instruments, pattern modifiers etc.) are parsed.
– Sounds are extracted from the midi-file and reparse into the songbuilder.
– Encoding the midi-messaages is done in an optimized fashion, so the resulting bytecode is as small as possible.
– The parsing is done with a conditional expression parser. This means that GoMinimal! needs only one token to read one new midi-message.
– The result of a parsing action is kept in a list, for easy analysis and future reparsing.
– The results of all parsing actions are checked for consistency by logical expressions.
– There is a set of default logging functions, these can be redirected.
– The parts of the midi-file are also extracted as text-data (which is easy to parse with a text-editor).
– The songbuilder will automatically recreate all midi-messages that it created and saved earlier.
– Supports a set of built-in effects (such as reverb or chorus).
A small example:
Essentially it is a set of (logical) functions (loading and saving) that can be used to parse a midi file into a list of tuples. This list can then be written to a file in the standard midi-format 1.

GoMinimal! is a small utility to convert ascii text and wave files into Standard MIDI-0-files.
There are two possible way to convert a wave file into a midi-file:
1. Go to File->Make MIDI-Files from given Wave files.
2. Go to File->Make MIDI-Files from a given AScii file.
The process of converting ascii files is very simple:
1. Place the files into a directory. The directory name in the settings-dialogue can be set to standard_midi.txt.
2. Start GoMinimal! with the settings-dialogue opened.
3. Use the button bar on the top to scroll through the settings in the settings-dialogue. The dialog-window will take very little time to appear because it has very few settings, most of which are just presets. The dialogs are described in more detail below:

File name: The name of the midi-file that will be created. The name can be edited.
Channel number: The first channel of the midi-file. If more than 16 channels are used, the first channel is channel 16 (0).
Channel order: The MIDI channels in the order they will be written to the midi-file. A 1 means that the midi-channel will start at channel 1. A 0 means that the midi-channel will start at channel 2.
Instruments: Each instrument is assigned a unique number. For the time being, the available instruments are the 120 128-instrument library.
Drums: The number of drums available (generally drums contain 128 instruments in a given virtual instrument). If more than 1 drum is set, the drums will appear sequentially starting at drum 1.
Envelope: The number of envelopes available. Each envelope contains the expression of a time-stretchable, volume and panning expression.
Tremolo: Each midi-channel can have a tremolo expression.
Fret-pick: Not used.
Program-note: Not used.
Transpose: Not used.
0-Note Repeat: Not used.
Sound Randomize: Not used.
Equalizer: Not used.
Settings saving: If a settings-file is specified, the settings-dialogue will automatically be saved. Otherwise, the settings-dialogue will be saved as “settings.txt” (default).

It allows you to convert general midi-data into standard midi data. It can convert to format 0,1 or 17.
GoMinimal! 6.0 will allow you to convert plain ascii text and wave files into Standard Midi 0 Files and then convert them back to the original midi-file. It can convert to format 0,1 or 17.
GoMinimal! will also let you convert standard midi-data into ascii-text and wave. It can convert to format 0,1 or 17.
GoMinimal! will convert 16-channel (limit to around 128 instruments and 60 drums) format 0 midi-data into a standard midi-file.

This is the starting point for the ultimate minimal midi adventure. It is a set of 4 tools:
1. A midi-file conversion program that can convert any midi-file-format into standard midi format 0. The output of this program is a general midi-file containing pure minimal music.
2. A midi-file decoder that can decode any standard midi-file into an ascii text-representation that is editable with a text-editor. This decoded text will replace any sample descriptions in the standard midi-file and the result will be a new ascii-text based standard midi-file.
3. A midi-file-decoder that can decode any standard midi-file into an ascii text-representation that is compatible with the standard midi-file format 0. This decoded text will replace sample descriptions that are only compatible with the standard midi-file format 1. This is a requirement for GoMinimal! since midi-files of any standard are supported out of the box. You can always add more midi-files of your choice using GoMinimal!
4. An ascii-representation of meccano-instruments that can be inserted into ascii-representations of text-representations (in general midi-files) and can be executed. This means you can execute real instruments and real instruments with real samples inside of your midi-file (or midi-files) using GoMinimal!.

What to download:
GoMinimal! ‘osd and ‘audio & midi => in your download directory (‘osd’)
To use the program you have to run the ‘program_name.exe’ file of GoMinimal!. If your window-system does not allow you to run exe-files you can drop the application into your download-directory (‘osd’) of your explorer (or your favourite file-browser).
You can follow the instructions under ‘GoMinimal!’ for an installation.
Known bugs:
1. No support for midi-file format 3. Standard midi files containing midi-tracks that have no midi-event (end-of-track) in the usual place does not work. I think this is a bug of ‘

To install, double-click on the Installer icon to begin the installation process.

Note: The installer is currently Mac OS X 10.6 only. This installer is designed for the Intel architecture only. If you are using a Power PC system, the PowerPC version of the Aperture 2.0 installer can be downloaded here.
