Played this while it was free and found it to be a short, easy game with some nice looking graphics. There’s a few moments where the music really gets under your skin (mostly at the start, and again when your torpedoes run out), and the final boss battle is probably the closest thing you’ll get to tension since it was just an encounter between a huge tank and a floating ark, but otherwise it’s a nice break from the norm. It has some nice touches like the fact that it’s incredibly hard to distinguish incoming torpedoes and explosions from space, and that when you don’t get hit you’re invincible and can just float around enjoying the views.

But the game is incredibly stupid and insulting, to the point where it makes me wonder if the devs aren’t just trolling the game’s hard-core market. For example, the game is not at all concerned with fairness; when you get hit by a torpedo it blows up and you’re out of the game, but there’s no way of telling if the hit was a miss or the enemy is hiding a torpedo behind their shell or something.

Another bug I noticed was that when you collected health upgrades, they all applied to the ship rather than the captain, so it got especially easy if you had any upgrades that increased health, since it just made the tank your health. In fact, the intro text even goes on to say that it isn’t fair if the captain loses, because it’s his fault for being so damn stupid.

The last boss was probably the biggest insult. Once the tanker blows up, a bunch of freakin’ jellyfish-things randomly float out of the wreck and attack the captain. They basically just get in your face and slap you around. I actually really liked this part because it was nice to see that it wasn’t all just so easy. They’re completely unstoppable (no invincibility, no resistances) and have crazy amount of health, but after beating them, they just keep spawning more
